Culture in the Digital Age – Long-term Insights Briefing 2025 How will technology change the way New Zealanders create, share and protect their stories in 2040 and beyond? Overall, the LTIB finds that by 2040, New Zealand’s cultural system will be deeply intertwined with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies. While these technologies bring unprecedented opportunities for creating, sharing and protecting stories, they also introduce significant ethical, legal, cultural and governance challenges. Image Future scenario 1: Aotearoa Unfiltered imagines a booming but largely unregulated digital creative economy, leading to unprecedented storytelling opportunities and increasing misinformation challenges. Other future scenarios discussed in the LTIB include Hyperlocal Renaissance, Digital Guardianship and A New Digital World. The LTIB does not set policy but provides impartial, future-focused insights to guide long-term decision-making.A summary of the LTIB and alternate formats will be made available in Easy Read and e-Braille formats shortly.Summary of Culture in the Digital Age – Long-term Insights Briefing 2025If you have further accessibility requirements, please contact us: [email protected]Cover art competition winner – Neil WallaceCongratulations to Neil Wallace, winner of our LTIB 2025 cover art competition.
