Kaine Thompson (Ngati Hauā, Tainui) has been appointed to the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra (NZSO) Board, Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture and Heritage announced.

Kaine brings significant strategic and operational experience, and a deep understanding of the sector to his appointment.

His previous roles include Director of Strategy and Corporate Services and Director of Development and Supporter Engagement at the NZSO, and Chief of Staff (Office of the Chief Executive) at Wellington City Council.

Currently, Kaine is a sole trader consultant working with clients across multiple sectors, including the arts.

Also holding rich governance experience, Kaine is Trustee of the Wellington Theatre Awards Trust, Trustee of the Embassy Theatre Trust, Trustee of Kia Puāwai-Youth Horizons and Trustee Whānau Mārama the New Zealand International Film Festival. His previous governance positions include Member of the New Zealand AIDS Foundation and Chair of the Wellington International Pride Parade Board.
