Renovations to the Chunuk Bair (New Zealand) Memorial, Gallipoli

A one month project will commence on 30 September 2013 to undertake maintenance of the Chunuk Bair (New Zealand) Memorial in Gallipoli, Turkey.

Chunuk Bair Memorial to the Missing.

Sponsored by the New Zealand Ministry of Culture and Heritage and undertaken by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, the project entails stone repairs and the cleaning of the memorial fabric. As the project involves the erection of scaffolding and the enclosure of the memorial in sheeting, there will be no access to the memorial for the duration of the project. The project will be completed by 31 October 2013.

The CHUNUK BAIR (NEW ZEALAND) MEMORIAL is one of four memorials erected to commemorate New Zealand soldiers who died on the Gallipoli peninsula and whose graves are not known. The memorial relates to the Battle of Sari Bair and other operations in this sector. It bears more than 850 names.
