Cabinet material

We proactively release Cabinet papers, minutes and material taken to Cabinet by the Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage, the Minister for Media and Communications and the Minister for Sport and Recreation. This is in line with Cabinet Office circular CO (23) 4: Proactive Release of Cabinet Material: Updated Requirements. We aim to make this information available as quickly as possible.

Advice to Ministers

We proactively release a list of all written advice provided to Ministers each month as part of our ongoing commitment to openness and transparency.

The papers on this list include reports, briefings and aides memoire. We publish the list of titles approximately three weeks after the last day of each month.

The titles of some papers we provide to Ministers may not be on the list. This is because we considered it not to be in the public interest to include them at the time of publication. However, it may now be possible to release these titles.

If you are interested in confirming the most up-to-date list of papers, contact [email protected].

General information releases

We occasionally publish information releases where there is a high degree of public interest. The aim is to increase public access to the work we do.

Proactive releases

Responses to OIA requests

We make available our responses to requests under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) where we consider the information to be of public interest, and where there is no risk to the privacy of individuals.

Information withheld

We sometimes withhold information from proactive release. This means if you request information under the Official Information Act, it could be withheld.  If this happens, we will have identified the relevant sections of the Act and checked there is no public interest that would outweigh the reasons for withholding the information.

Making an OIA request

The Official Information Act 1982 (or OIA) enables citizens, permanent residents, visitors to New Zealand, and body corporates registered or with a place of business in New Zealand, to make requests for official information held by government agencies, including Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture and Heritage.
