SOUNZ Centre for New Zealand Music is proud to announce their redeveloped and new look website, SOUNZ Online, is now ready to use at the familiar address www.sounz.org.nz.
SOUNZ Online hosts a unique collection of quality NZ music, giving the public an opportunity to discover information about New Zealand composers and their works: hours of video and audio recordings to view and listen to for free, thousands of scores and resources available to buy and for hire, and repertoire suggestions for musicians and teachers.
As a result of nine months of working with Wellington based developers Rabid Technologies, SOUNZ is now able to share New Zealand music with everyone better than before across a range of genres. The new website also embraces the country’s diverse heritage by introducing te reo Māori translations on the site navigation. The updated visual identity was created by Strategy Creative.
In addition, information from SOUNZ's website is now available through DigitalNZ, New Zealand’s largest cultural database and the search engine for New Zealand culture, providing greater access and discoverability of New Zealand music.
SOUNZ Executive Director Diana Marsh said, “We are looking forward to greater engagement with our users through the new dynamic and better functioning website, including sharing New Zealand music throughout the country and the world to increase our global reach.”
SOUNZ Centre for New Zealand Music maintains and develops a diverse collection of quality New Zealand music resources, available through SOUNZ online or by visiting us. We offer guidance to the resources in the collection so that our users can find the information or the materials they need. We also connect performers, presenters, teachers, composers, artistic directors and broadcasters with New Zealand music through our promotional activities and projects.
Our key projects include the SOUNZ Contemporary Award run in collaboration with APRA, NZ Composer Sessions in partnership with NZSO and RNZ Concert, and Resound project delivered with project partner RNZ Concert with funding from NZ On Air. We collaborate with NZ orchestras, ensembles, composers, musicians and other music organisations on various projects.
We would like to acknowledge the Lottery Grants Board for providing significant funding for this upgrade. We also received support from the NZ Music Operators Association and Creative New Zealand and thanks go to both for their generosity in making this upgrade possible.
